Bowing to pressure from the activist group Change Offensive Names In Golf (CONIG), Pinehurst Resort announced that it is changing the name of its iconic statue, Putter Boy, to Putter Person. In a related development, Putter Boy has also come under criticism from the $hort Game $uper Guru$ of America ($G$GA) for promoting a poor setup. “The boy … I mean, kid … I mean, person’s eyes should be directly over the ball, not over the grip,” said spokesperson Jen Durr. “What’s worse, his … I mean, her … I mean, its hat hasn’t got even one logo! What kind of offensive nonsense is that?”
The word on the street is that CONIG has three other golf companies on its radar: Trackman, Bag Boy, and Ping. Says Durr: “The name Ping itself isn’t offensive, but its logo — Ping Man — might be. Our attorneys are trying to determine if the image in the logo — when viewed under an electron microscope — is a man or a mutation of the E. coli bacterium. If the former, Ping will be hearing from our attorneys.”
