Jason Gore has left the USGA — where he was Managing Director of Player Relations — and signed on with the PGA Tour as a Senior VP and Player Advocate.
Gore said that “I enjoyed comforting unhappy touring pros when I was at the USGA. Guys who didn’t like how we set up the U.S. Open venues needed shoulders to cry on and I was proud to assume that role. But at the end of the day, I was stuck in New Jersey at USGA headquarters staring at Ben Hogan’s old talcum powder tins. So it was time to move on and I was thrilled when Jay called me.”
“Jay,” of course, is PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan who said the following:
We’re thrilled to have Jason return to the PGA Tour family where he’ll provide our members with the sensitive care they deserve. At the end of the day, PGA Tour players know that if they want a man-hug or if they want to be tucked in at night, they only need to text Jason and he’ll be there for them.
Golf Lampoon spoke with one major winner who sang Gore’s praises:
I mean, like, Jason is, you know, an ex-Tour player. He kind of knows what guys are going through so he’s like, you know, really cool about stepping up when guys out here need help. Perfect example: I was in a tournament — I’m not gonna mention the name because their courtesy cars suck — where they didn’t have any orange Powerades, just the berry flavor. I mean, that’s just bullshit! So I called Jason after my round and he was like, ‘Oh, man, I am SO sorry.’ And I was like, ‘Hey, MAN, it’s not your fault Just get it fucking fixed, bro.’ Next day I open a cooler at 10 tee box and there’s like, 3 dozen ORANGE Powerades in there! I mean, the dude saw there was a problem and immediately fixed it. Also, you know, some of the Port-a-Johns on Tour really stink! So I asked Jason if the Tour could place a can of air freshener in each crapper. He emails me back the next day and says: ‘No problem. Do you want Springtime Linen or Bougainvillea Breeze? I’m telling you, Jason’s got our backs here on Tour!
